August 9, 2019. The day that I was looking forward to, where a lot of emotions and thoughts were going through my head. The start of my success story, the day of my NCLEX.

We left our house around 3 AM and had to endure long hours of travel because we lived outside Manila. We arrived in Makati around 6 AM and it was raining really hard that morning. I took my breakfast and said some prayers before finally ascending Trident towers. I went to Pearson Vue at exactly 8 AM and was asked to switch off my phone before entering the premises.

Dread. This was the initial feeling I had going to the testing center. The environment at the PV was so professional, it was very quiet. I can almost hear my heart beat faster by the minute. Several verification processes made before I entered the testing room. Our main proof of identification is our passport.

I can say that security checks are really thorough and this is necessary to avoid cheating on anyway or form. When all verification and security steps are done, I was then allowed to enter the testing room and given a computer to access the exam.

Final instructions were given before I started the exam properly. Topics on the exam will depend on the examinee and how they performed during the exam. I always believe that NCLEX is highly personalized. To be honest, I was calm answering questions, my heart just started racing when my exam continued after number 75. I was a bit anxious but tried reminding myself that as long as the exam runs I’m still given a chance to prove that I deserve to pass. My exam stopped at number 85 and finished at around an hour and a half. These factors may be different for each examinee.

After the exam

After my exam I went back to my family. They did not expect I’d finish sooner than anticipated since I informed them that it might take me about 6 hours. The hardest part for me personally was the anxiety of having to wait for the results even though we only have to wait for 48-72 hours. Still, it was the longest hours of my life. Eventually, it was all worth it as I passed my NCLEX and now a USRN.

I know that some guidelines have changed since we are under the new normal, but I think that these are minor alterations and the process is somewhat the same.
