What is VisaScreen?

As per CGFNS the Visa Credentials Assessment Service is a screening program specifically for healthcare professionals who has to get an occupational visa in order to work in the United States. Read more to understand everything you need to know about visascreen application.

What You Need to Know about VisaScreen Application

It is mandated in the US law that a certain healthcare professional needs to undergo proper screening before they can be legally allowed to receive a permanent or temporary occupational visa. It also ensures that you meet the minimum eligibility requirements to practice a healthcare profession in the USA.

Components of a Visa Screening

  1. Educational Review
  2. Licensure Review
  3. English Language Skills Assessment
  4. Predictive Examination for Nurses

Who needs to order Visa Screening?

  1. Registered Nurses
  2. Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurses
  3. Physical Therapists
  4. Physician Assistants
  5. Occupational Therapists
  6. Audiologists
  7. Speech Language Pathologists
  8. Clinical Laboratory Technicians / Medical Laboratory Technicians
  9. Clinical Laboratory Scientists / Medical Laboratory Technologists

Take note that each healthcare professional might need specific requirements like a licensure exam/certification exam before they can process their Visa Credentials Assessment.

Pre-requisite for Registered Nurses

  • You need to pass your NCLEX and get an overall band score of 6.5 and speaking band 7 in IELTS.
  • We encourage you to take the NCLEX first before IELTS. As IELTS only have a validity of 2 years from the time that you took it.

Will I be able to start Visa Screen process without the IELTS?

  • Yes, you can start to purchase the service if you haven’t taken up your IELTS, however keep in mind that the purchase will expire after 1 year. So you have to take IELTS and meet the required band score within 1 year, otherwise the service will expire and you won’t be able to push through with your visa credential assessment. We highly recommend though that you finish your IELTS before purchasing.

Do I need to have an employer before I can start the Visa Screening?

  • No, you do not need an employer to start your VisaScreen process. As soon as you pass the NCLEX you can actually start it.

How long is the validity of the Visa Screen Certificate?

  • Another thing you need to know about visascreen application is that after you successfully completed the requirements for the Visa Credentials Assessment you will be issued a certificate which is valid for 5 years.
  • You do not need to worry about the validity of the IELTS as long as your VisaScreen Certificate is already issued. Not unless your VisaScreen expires and you aren’t in the US yet, then you have to retake your IELTS.

Can I use my VisaScreen Certificate in any State?

  • Yes, you can! As discussed above the VisaScreen is mandated by the immigration law which means it is a requirement for any state before you can be issued an occupational visa.
