How can you be eligible for the OBA Pathway

Nurses are in demand in Australia, so if you are considering Australia a place to work with.
This is the following information that you should know.

As professional nurses, in order for us to practice our expertise, we must have a license.
In Australia, you must undergo their bridging program and it’s a long process. However, last March 2020 Australia offered a new program to medical practitioners specifically nurses.

They have this so-called OBA pathway which replaces the bridging program. Following this new OBA pathway, internationally educated nurses no longer need to do the bridging program, which means nurses can process their license in a very short period of time.

Outcome-based Assessment

OBA stands for Outcome-based Assessment, this is a procedure to assess nurses who wish to become registered nurses in Australia. But you must meet the mandatory qualifications and requirements that they need.

Here are the requirements to be eligible for this OBA pathway(Needed later upon registration of license):

Criminal History (Online)
English Language Skills (OET, IELTS, PTE, TOEFL)
The Recency of Practice (450 hours within 5 years, cumulative)
Professional Indemnity Insurance Arrangements
Qualification Criteria:
Education /Qualification is recognized by a licensing body
Qualification had undergone quality assurance and accreditation
The Academic level is comparable to Australian Bachelor Degree at Level 7 (RN or Midwife), Australian Diploma Level 5 (Enrolled Nurse)

But it doesn’t mean that once you pass the qualifications and the requirements you will become a registered nurse automatically in Australia. As part of the assessment process, you will also undergo two types of examinations which are the MQC examination (Multiple-Choice Question Exam) and the OSCE examination (Objective Structured Clinical Exam).
