8 Reasons to Become a Nurse in USA

(Estimated reading time: 4 minutes)

With the increased demand for health care professionals across the globe, Registered Nurses can have plenty of opportunities in the United States of America. While there is already a predicted shortage of nurses, the pandemic will only increase the demand. Listed below are 8 reasons why becoming a nurse in the USA is a good career path.

1. There is an abundance of employment opportunities.

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projected the growth of nurses’ employment to 12% from 2018 to 2028. A much faster growth compared to the average of all occupations. In addition, RNs can have plenty of opportunities to shift into various aspects of nursing, including acute care, preventive care, critical care, and many more.

2. One can also specialize in various fields to start their career

This includes specializing as a cardiac nurse, ER nurse, geriatric nurse, and nurse anesthetist. All of which are among fast-growing nurse specialties. Moreover, nursing offers opportunities in the fields of academics, informatics, and policy-making. So whatever your choice may be, surely nursing has a lot to offer.

3. Nurses earn good salaries.

There can be a lot of benefits of working with a competitive salary. Living in the United States can be rewarding and the salary is great too. The median salary of a US RN is $60,000 annually. Furthermore, a nurse’s salary can be influenced by training, experience, education, and other certifications. Still, a nurse’s pay varies per state.

4. The nursing profession boasts a high level of job satisfaction.

Results of a 2019 state-wide survey conducted by AMN Healthcare Services states that 81% of nurses say they are satisfied with their career choice, with “extremely satisfied” as the largest category, and 75% say they are satisfied with the quality of care they are able to provide to patients.

5. Employment-Based Immigration: Third Preference EB-3.

Quoting from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services or USCIS, “If your I-140 petition is approved, your spouse and unmarried children under the age of 21 may be eligible to apply for admission to the United States in E34 (spouse of a “skilled worker” or “professional”) or EW4 (spouse of an “other worker”). and E35 (child of a “skilled worker” or “professional”) or EW5 (child of an “other worker”).”

6. Nurses receive a lot of benefits.

Benefits may vary based on the place of employment. Nurses get to enjoy the benefits of paid holidays, sick leaves and paid time off. Furthermore, employees pay or reimburse the continuing education expenses of the nurses.

7. Diversity of workforce in the field.

Diversity is a worldwide issue, it is more than just a topic of discourse. That is why in nursing, diversity includes gender, veteran status, race, disability, age, religion, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, education, nationality, and physical characteristics. Also, nurses meet people from all walks of life. The American Nurses Association urges nurses to grow personally and professionally in their efforts to better understand diversity issues and translate those learnings to quality care for every patient.

8. The flexibility of work schedule.

One of the beauties of working as a nurse is the flexibility of work schedule. Moreover, they can choose to work part-time, full-time, or free-lancer because healthcare is needed 24/7! In addition, you can plot your career plan and gradually achieve it as your plan becomes attainable. There are employers who provide free-tuition for their nurses who want to advance in their careers. Then again, benefits may vary.

To sum it up, the nursing career path offers many worthwhile benefits and you only need to decide that you want to become a USRN.
