Are you a healthcare professional dreaming of a career in the United States? The Michigan English Test (MET) could be your key to unlocking your dream. Before delving into the details of the free information session, let’s explore the pivotal significance of the MET.
The MET is a requisite for several states, particularly for nurses and healthcare workers pursuing occupational visas in the US. Nursing Boards acknowledge MET as proof of English proficiency. Furthermore, the MET is accepted in Alabama, Florida, Idaho, Michigan, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Wyoming.
According to HRSA’s guidelines for Foreign Healthcare Workers, CGFNS International acknowledges the MET as evidence of language proficiency. Foreign healthcare professionals can now validate their English proficiency using the Michigan English Test when seeking occupational visas.
To fulfill VisaScreen, applicants need a minimum MET overall score of 55, alongside a speaking score of 55 or higher. Below are the healthcare professions that accept MET as a language proficiency requirement:
a. Registered nurses (RNs): The Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) accepts the MET for its VisaScreen program.
b. Licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPNs/LVNs): Like RNs, the CGFNS also accepts the MET for LPNs/LVNs seeking US work visas.
c. Speech-language pathologists: The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) recognizes the MET for individuals seeking certification as speech-language pathologists in the United States.
d. Audiologists: The American Academy of Audiology (AAA) also recognizes the Michigan English Test for individuals seeking certification as audiologists.
e. Physician assistants (PAs): The National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) accepts the MET for individuals seeking certification as PAs.
f. Medical technologists and technicians: The American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) recognizes the MET for individuals seeking certification as medical technologists or technicians.
Other medical professions that may accept the Michigan English Test:
a. Occupational therapists
b. Physical therapists
c. Respiratory therapists
d. Radiologic technologists
e. Pharmacists
f. Nurses with advanced practice degrees (APRNs)
