The COVID-19 outbreak was announced last January 5, 2020, and it’s easily spread out with our countries due to faster transmission of this virus which leads to a very alarming situation.
The sudden increase of cases affects not just the lives of the people but also the economy itself. The year 2020 was a survival year, as all of us are fighting to stay alive and to save lives.
Increasing numbers of COVID cases also mean a decreasing number of health workers. Many hospitals don’t have enough capacity to accept patients, that it has reached a point that governments had to decide to enforce lockdowns to slow down the transmission of this virus.
According to worldometers.info.com the world has a total of 144,472,683 confirmed cases, 3,072,276 deaths, 122,660,280 recoveries and 187,401.27 active cases. With this number of cases, there are numerous vacancies of nurses all over the world.
A huge number of cases is not a good sign for us and they need to be cured. The longer that we are facing this situation, the longer that we are struggling in this economic crisis. The world needs more health workers to end this battle.
Increasing vacancies of positions for nurses abroad was a good opportunity for them to earn higher salaries than they deserved. The shortage of nurses in all the medical facilities leads to an increasingly higher demand for nurses not just here in the Philippines but all over the world.
In fact, based on the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for nurses is increasing 7% from the year 2019-2029. It increases faster compared to other occupations, and the projected employment for nurses is around 3,318,700 until 2029..
Nurses and even other medical professions have a high role in this time of crisis. Most of the nurses are sacrificing their lives just to serve us and protect us. With this pandemic, it is also an eye-opener for us that we should not ignore our health workers but instead, we should know how relevant they are to our lives.
