Beginning June 15, 2020, the Texas Board of Nursing will be launching the new completely online Texas Nurse Portal.
The said Nursing Regulatory Board stopped accepting paper applications last May 29, to give way to the new application portal. Processing of the submitted papers prior to this cut off is by June 5, 2020.
The Texas Board of Nursing originally planned to implement changes last April but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Beginning June 4, 2020, at 6 PM Texas Standard Time, the current BON system will be taken down and will not be available until June 15. It will resume and launch its online application system by then.
Within the transition period, candidates who have their application already posted will not be able to view updates from June 4 to June 15.
This downtime will allow data transfer from its previous system to the new system. Given that there will be a large volume of data transfer and also to allow additional testing.
The implication of the New System to Licensure Application:
In this system upgrade, all applications will be submitted online as the board will go from paper applications to paperless.
Licensure Application, Prep Course & Nursing Jurisprudence Exam and Criminal Background Check registration, renewal of a license, endorsement application, and reapplication will not be available. Additionally, the Texas Board of Nursing will not be able to issue Authorization to Test (ATT) from June 4 to June 15.
Following this implementation, it is practical to say that the processing will become more affordable for nurses because the fee that is supposed to be for the paper application will already be abolished.
By June 15, the new Texas BON portal shall be up and running for its candidates’ application requests.
