Want to work and live in Australia or the USA as a Nurse?

Registered nurses have always been in high demand all over the world, especially in Australia and in the USA. Many people chooses this career path because of its quality benefits. Benefits such as being able to move and work abroad to provide their family a brighter future.

As a registered nurse, you must have considered working abroad at least once. There are several ways that nurses can live and work in Australia and the USA, but one popular way is by having an NCLEX as your golden ticket and the first step to make your goal possible.

National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) is a national licensure examination for Nurses in the USA, Canada, and Australia. It was developed by NCSBN and is administered by Pearson Vue. It is an assessment exam that will check the skills, knowledge, and abilities of an entry-level nurse. As well as measure their ability to attend to the client’s needs like care and maintenance, or restoration of health.

Although it may seem like the NCLEX USA and NCLEX Australia are similar, they still differ in some notable aspects.

NCLEX USA VS. NCLEX AUSTRALIA

For NCLEX USA, there is an automatic issuance of the license after passing the exam, unless there is a payment required by the USA Board of Nursing prior to the issuance of the license while on the other hand if you are an NCLEX Australia passer (MCQ) you need to undergo the OSCE exam before you can proceed with the license registration.

If you are an NCLEX-USA passer in the past 10 years, you can skip sitting for the NCLEX Australia and apply for the exam exemption.

With the current trend, the application for NCLEX Australia may be faster compared with NCLEX-USA. In most of the cases, you get approval that you can sit for the MCQ in 1-3 months while in NCLEX-USA the approval is usually 6-7 months depending on which Board of Nursing you applied for the NCLEX.

The cost might be a defining factor when you decide on these international examinations. The total costing for the OBA pathway will be around Php 200K from the application until the license registration while for the NCLEX-USA, you will be investing around 40-60K Php approximately.

However, if you passed the NCLEX Australia and decided to process a license endorsement to the USA, AHPRA advised that you need to communicate with the recipient USA board of nursing.
